Burglary suspect who went viral after judge recognized him from school is back in jail on similar charges
Recent robbery victims in Miami are finding some peace after police announced the arrest of a man behind a series of crimes. Among those relieved is 85-year-old Eduardo, who was robbed of his cherished gold chain. The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Arthur Nathaniel Booth, has been linked to multiple robberies in the area, according to NBC Miami.
The incident involving Eduardo occurred on August 8, when someone knocked on his door on West Flagler Street, pretending to be a plumber. Speaking in Spanish, Eduardo described how the man asked him to turn on his bathtub’s faucet. As he bent over to do so, the thief seized the opportunity to snatch the gold chain from around Eduardo’s neck and fled the scene.
Eduardo was particularly devastated by the loss because the gold chain, which had a Saint Lazarus pendant, was a sentimental gift from Cuba. He expressed hope that it might be recovered.
Booth, the man now in custody, has a history that many might recognize. His name gained attention in 2015 when a viral moment occurred in Miami-Dade bond court.
Judge Mindy Glazer, presiding over his hearing, recognized Booth as her former middle school classmate. At that time, Booth faced charges of burglary and grand theft. The emotional encounter brought Booth to tears, and Judge Glazer expressed hope that he would turn his life around.
Unfortunately, Booth’s recent actions suggest otherwise. He was arrested again last Thursday, facing several charges, including burglary and assault. Detectives were able to track him down using surveillance footage and found that he had pawned jewelry matching the items reported stolen.
As Booth appeared before a judge once more, this time he was denied bond.
