Former Rochester Police officer gets 10 weekends in jail for rape of 13 year old
A former Rochester Police officer, Shawn Jordan, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 weekends in jail after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl in South Bristol in 2022. Jordan, who is also sentenced to 10 years of probation, faced Ontario County Judge Kristina Karle as the sentence was handed down.
The mother of the victim, now 15, made an emotional plea to the court, urging Judge Karle to impose a harsher sentence on the man who assaulted her daughter. Despite the mother’s appeals, the judge adhered to the terms of the plea agreement.
Ontario County Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford commented on the plea deal, acknowledging the challenges of the case. “I’m not entirely satisfied with the sentence … but ultimately as a prosecutor I have to weigh things like the impact of actually having to testify on the victim of this crime. And she’s a child, and she was going to have to face her accuser in the courtroom. And when I was given the opportunity to consider whether or not we’d take a guilty plea – absolutely, all day, in a circumstance like this,” Wolford said.
Jordan is scheduled to begin serving his sentence later this month. An order of protection has been issued for the victim, and Jordan will be registered as a sex offender.
This case is separate from another set of charges Jordan faces in Monroe County. He was arrested in March 2023, accused of exposing himself to a minor and acting in a lewd manner during a video chat.
Following his arrest, Jordan was suspended from the Rochester Police Department without pay and later resigned from the force. A court date for the Monroe County case has not yet been scheduled, according to a spokesperson from the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
